I know a lot of people think John Williams' score work is overly bombastic, and over the top sometimes, but I happen to love his work, and wish more composers would aspire to his level. The stuff always makes for good listening on it's own.

With that in mind, consider this for background music the next time you're surfing online for an hour:

PS. You have to download some kind of embedded AOL player application, but there doesn't seem to be any spyware in it or anything...

I just finished watching Hero. Not sure which version I saw, because I've been hearing a lot of talk about how the North American version will be cut down from 2 hours, to about 98 minutes...but this version seems to be a bit longer than 2 hours (it was ripped from 2 SVCDs). Anyway...

Maybe I'm not a very good judge of movies in this genre, and maybe I'm just not as jaded as those who hold movies to a much higher standard than the tripe foisted on us by Hollywood...but I know what moves me when I see it.

This is one of the best films I've ever seen. Don't even talk to me about that Crouching Whatever rubbish. This movie was everything I expected that movie to be, and a lot more.

If anyone knows of a DVD release of this long version (subtitles not required), please get in touch with me about it. I'll buy it.

PS. A moment of silence might be in order. Douglas Adams died on this day, 3 years ago.

I heard something I haven't heard in a long time. I *good* new song on the radio. Testing 1 2 3 from Barenaked Ladies. I downloaded a high quality mp3 of it this evening, just to get a better listen to it. Holy crap! The mixing is brilliant, the song is catchy as hell, and it's just an all around breath of fresh air.

Think I'm going to go buy my second CD of the year, finally! (yay!)
